This year I am giving up Catholicism for Lent.    Ba Dum Cheee!

Thanks folks.  Remember to tip your servers and try the fish.  It’s Lent, baby.

Oh Chogo

Chogo
I long for people…                              Hito koishi
then again I loathe them:                      hito mutsukashishi
end of autumn.                                   aki no kure

I’m envisioning a time when this site focuses exclusively on Japanese Death Poetry.  There are enough blogs that cover current events and celebrity news.  There aren’t nearly enough blogs that cover haiku poets on the verge of death.  We should fill that gap.

Also, Chogo, nice job nailing my mood today.

The Christian Bale Rage Dance Remix

This is why the internet is the greatest invention of all time.  Some DJ in LA named RevoLucian put this together last night and now we have it.  Thanks Mr. Lucian for your hard work!

I wonder if RevoLucian is the Director of Photography’s DJ name?

Fuck you, Christian Bale.

Japanese Death Poem

Posted in Uncategorized on January 21, 2009 by mikebrennan

I cleansed the mirror

of my heart… now it reflects

the moon.

I found this poem here.  Another reference at Google Books says the poet, named Renseki, died in 1789 at the age of 88.

Pleased to meet you.

I’m Mike Brennan, and I work as an independent contractor for Princess Anne county.  Basically I drive around in my truck fixing things, doing odd jobs, helping out in weather emergencies, and picking up roadkill.  It’s actually kind of fun.  I know Bibeau from a mutual friend.  I’m a redneck from the Midwest, and I like High Life and the Eagles (band and team).  I have a couple of interests, like competition chili cooking, photography, Japanese death poetry, astronomy, monitoring my police scanner, and hunting down strange sources of radiation with my Geiger counter.  I post stuff on Bibeau’s blog, and I’ll post here too if you guys don’t mind.  Above is a group of photos I took recently.  I call it “The Missing Family.”

Cosmos Ep 1, Pt 1

It’s Carl, goofy, nerdy, charming Carl… talking about space and the human species, and how we’re going to explore the stars if we don’t kill ourselves first.  The guy’s one part Fred Rogers, two parts David Byrne, and a pinch of Richard Dawkins.  We have way too much Pat Robertson in the world.  We need more Carl.
